My Route

Find a safer commute

Type where you're going. We show you up to 3 routes — each with a Privacy Score based on how many surveillance cameras are along the way. Fewer cameras, higher score. Pick the route that feels right for you.

Am I Being Watched?

See who's watching right now

Tap one button. We check for cameras within 200 meters of where you're standing — ALPRs, PTZ cameras, speed cameras, traffic cameras. See exactly what's nearby, how far away, and what data each camera collects.

Built on public data.
Runs on your phone.

Everything WATCHED.LA shows you comes from public records, community contributors, and city disclosures.

1

Camera Database

We map thousands of surveillance cameras in Los Angeles using OpenStreetMap contributors, FOIA requests, LAPD and LADOT public disclosures, and investigative reporting. Nothing secret — just organized for the first time.

2

Privacy Score

Each camera has a risk level based on what it collects and who it shares data with. Flock Safety ALPRs that feed into the JRIC federal fusion center score differently than a basic traffic camera. Your route score reflects that.

3

Everything Stays on Your Phone

WATCHED.LA never sends your location, routes, or searches to any server. We don't know who you are. Processing happens entirely on your device.

4

Free. Always.

No subscription. No ads. No premium tier. This is a public interest project. You shouldn't have to pay to know who's watching you.

Not all cameras are equal.

WATCHED.LA distinguishes between camera types — because a traffic camera and a Flock Safety ALPR are not the same thing.

Flock Safety ALPR
Reads your license plate. Feeds into LAPD and the JRIC federal fusion center. Accessible to DHS and federal agencies.
Critical
LAPD PTZ Camera
Actively tracked. Feeds LAPD's Real-Time Analysis Division. Clearview AI facial recognition integration documented.
Critical
Speed Camera (AB 645)
Captures your plate and speed. Civil fines $50–$500. 125 locations approved by LA City Council in 2026.
High
LADOT Traffic Camera
Monitors traffic flow. Data retained 72 hours to 30 days. Some have public live feeds viewable in the app.
